Consultation can only be claimed up to 2 times a year, and only when necessary/ when a check-up has been done. Each consultation has to be at least 6 months apart. I.e. if you go to a dental clinic for consultation, and visit another clinic 2 months later, you will not be able to utilise your CHAS subsidies for the 2nd consultation.

Up to 6 X-rays can be claimed per year. The subsidies cannot be utilised for cone-beam CTs and lateral cephalometric radiographs.

Subsidies for scaling and polishing can be claimed up to 2 times a year. They cannot be utilised for cleaning of dentures or other removable prostheses.

Topical fluoride treatment is often indicated after cleaning as a preventive measure to prevent new decay, or to reduce sensitivity after cleaning. However, subsidies for fluoride treatment can only be claimed if it's necessary for you i.e. if you have a high risk of having new decay. They can be used up to 2 times a year. 

Fillings are classified as either simple or complex, based on the surface that the cavity appears on. Although a "simple" filling can sometimes require more time & effort compared to "complex" filling, this classification has to be followed for the utilisation of your CHAS subsidies. You will not be able to claim a "simple" filling as a "complex" filling. A total of 6 fillings can be claimed a year - they cannot be used for fissure sealants, flowable composites, or for aesthetic procedures such as closure of gaps. A filling for the same tooth cannot be claimed twice if it's done within 3 months of an earlier filling.

Extractions are classified as either posterior or anterior. Posterior teeth refers to teeth behind your canines - the premolars & molars, whereas anterior teeth are teeth are the front - the incisors, lateral incisors, and canines. Similar to fillings, You will not be able to claim an anterior extraction as a posterior one, even if the procedure takes a significant amount of time.

Root canal treatment can only be claimed for a completed first-time root canal treatment, and cannot be utilised for re-treatments. They are classified according to anterior, pre-molar, or molar treatments.

Removable dentures can be claimed once every 3 calendar years, and up to 1 upper and 1 lower denture. This means that if you have claimed for your dentures in Jan 2021, the next time you can claim for your denture again would be in Jan 2024. Dentures are classified as either partial (if you still have natural teeth left) or complete (if you have no more natural teeth left). Partial dentures are further classified into simple partial (for less than 6 teeth) or simple complex (for more than 6 teeth). Subsidies are also available for denture reline/ repair - however, this cannot be utilised if you have recently claimed for new dentures within the past 3 months, even if the reline/ repair is for an old pair of dentures.

Crowns can only be claimed if they are done on natural teeth and permanent dentition (adult teeth). Up to 4 claims can be made a year. If you have a bridge, crowns can be claimed for the abutment teeth (natural teeth with crowns) but not for pontics (false teeth attached). Implant restorations are excluded.
